Actually, there are many myths and humor about our first president that reflects the love that people have for this great leader. Of the many jokes about supposed wooden teeth to thousands of places throughout the country that say "George Washington is sleeping here," to the mythical story of how he threw a silver dollar at Potomac as a child or his response when he was caught cutting down cheerful trees and responding to accusations "I can't lie", the Washington myth is strong in the national memory of this great leader.

Washington never set out to be the greatest president of all time or even to be in a leadership position in the new country he helped start. He was the one who started the concept of a "citizen president" and he was very confident in the concept so he refused to run for a third term because his time as a citizen leader had ended. This tradition is maintained with few exceptions until it is codified as part of our constitution in the form of the 22nd amendment.

But before Washington was a great political leader, he showed extraordinary leadership skills in the field of combat. He studied the art of war which served honorably in the French and Indian wars and the influence and respect he gained during the conflict gave him the title of commander and chief of the American Army when the continental congress created that role in 1775. years later, he took the responsibility of the commander and chief with him to the presidency where the presidency continues today even though some of our modern presidents have Washington's military mandate.

When leading troops during the revolutionary war, a famous incident that had been captured beautifully by artists was his decision to cross the Delaware in New Jersey to carry out a surprise attack and win the battle against the British. It is another brilliant maneuver that shows his strong understanding of military strategy and only serves to increase his fame and reputation as an extraordinary human leader.

After the war, Washington was again interested in retiring from public life but he never turned away when his nation needed it. And needing it was done when he led the Continental Congress to ascertain the draft of the successful US Constitution. Of the many great achievements in his life, his ability to provide leadership and inspiration to the assembly to produce a masterpiece of American political ties will certainly be classified as perhaps the best time.

George Washington was awarded for his superior leadership skills when he was given extraordinary responsibility to serve as the first President of the United States. His wisdom and insight about what the nation needed in the eastern stages of its initial development made it the right person for the struggling republic. Few realized that one of his biggest contributions to the presidency was recognizing that the nation was torn and tired from the war. So by using its enormous influence and negotiation skills, Washington signed a number of important agreements that resulted in the years of peace needed to transform the country from war thinking into thinking of building a great nation.
