The Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego contains some of the most extensive and dramatically designed historic buildings in the area. Built between 1873 and 1930, this Victorian building is truly a sight worth seeing.

Victorian buildings found in the Gaslamp Quarter are home to nightclubs, restaurants, theaters and shops. Simple walks on the 4th and 5th street will put you in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter. Also found in the Gaslamp Quarter is Horton Plaza and Horton Plaza Park. Plaza is the first place in the United States to display a fountain containing electric lights; the real award for designer Alonzo Horton.

The Gaslamp Quarter received its name from the gas lights used in the area around the early 1900s. During that time, gas lights were the main source of light for the area that is now the vision of San Diego's Modern Day.

At present, there are more than 130 shops and shops that fill the Gaslamp Quarter. With everything, from Macy's to Mervyns, the Gaslamp Quarter has a lot to see and do. At Horton Plaza, you can find a multi-screen cinema that will surely delight movie lovers.
