5 Free Things to do When Visiting San Francisco

Anyone who knows me well knows that I like cheap and free things to do with family. Not that I don't want to pay a lot of money for fun, I just believe that the best pleasure is sometimes free like the wind. The same is true when visiting new cities like San Francisco. I will invest a lot of time looking for activities that I and my family members can enjoy with little or no money. This saves money on other things such as good food and souvenirs.

I am also a big fan of David Letterman and in that spirit I decided to compile my own top five list in honor of Letterman's Top 10 list. My top 5 list consists of things to do for free when visiting San Francisco.

1. Golden Gate Bridge.
This is a favorite among tourists for various reasons. One reason for this is the fact that it is one of the landmarks that only belongs to San Francisco. This is a unique part of this city and represents, for many people, your entire journey. Another reason is that there are so many ways to get there. I recommend walking and if you are ready for it, try one of the guided walking tours - this will provide valuable background information about the bridge and ensure that you do not get lost on the road.

2. Golden Gate Park.
This park is bigger than Central Park New York and in my opinion are both magnificent. There is so much to do and see in Golden Gate Park that you can spend part of your vacation alone here.

3. Cable Car Museum.
Children of all ages will find this museum interesting, especially big and small boys. This museum clearly offers a lot of education and excitement for the family. Besides learning about neat cable cars that have become trademarks of San Francisco transportation. This is one of the museums that I will pay for a visit, the fact that it's free is a bonus that I can't refuse and the main reason why this is in this top ten list.

4. San Francisco Walking Tour.
This free walking tour is not only entertaining; they are also very informative. Learn about the history of the environment in which the city is famous and also the great people who rebuilt the big city, literally from the ashes of the past and made it better. San Francisco has a beautiful story to tell and this guide tells it amazingly.

5. San Francisco Fire Museum.
For big kids among all of us who want to grow into firefighters, this museum takes cakes. Not only does it provide great historical references and artifacts but it is also very cool! I can't think of greater praise for giving the museum besides that. This one, even your children will enjoy and beg to come back again and again.
Whether you are a big kid, a small child, or just a child in the heart of this activity is a good and inexpensive way to pass a day or two while on vacation. If you can't stand saving or not spending it, I'm sure each of these places will be happy to accept donations or at least sell something to you in the gift shop (if the place you visit has one). However, I hope my advice makes your mental wheel spin and you find your own great way to enjoy the day without spending a lot of green.
